ARCTIC RAIL – A CROSS-BORDER COLLABORATION

Although geographically remote, the Northern Calotte is of growing strategic importance to the European Union for the transport of goods, passengers and defence-related logistics. Reliable and resilient rail connections across northern Norway, Sweden and Finland — along the Narvik–Luleå–Oulu corridor within the TEN-T network, with northern and southern connecting lines — are therefore essential. Arctic Rail works to strengthen cross-border cooperation between industry and public authorities to ensure a coherent, capacity-strong and future-proof rail system in the European Arctic.

Advancing railway solutions for a sustainable future

Welcome to Arctic Rail! We are a trilateral economic association, dedicated to advance and develop the railway infrastructure in the Northern Calotte region. Through membership in our community, companies and organizations are gaining access to strategic opportunities, cross-border collaborations, and a platform to influence policy decisions that shape the future of rail transport in Northern Europe.

AGENDA

Our goal

The reliability of the railway network in the Arctic region is a key factor. Not only for the people living in the area and for the heavy industry that forms a crucial part of Nordic exports, but also for the success of the green transition in the Nordics and Europe, for critical material flows and passenger transport, as well as for attracting key competencies. Arctic Rail was formed in order to address these issues.
